"We are what we eat."

Food therapy in TCVM is the art of selecting food ingredients based on the constitution of the pet or animal, their age, species, geographic location, and the TCVM pattern.

TCVM theory supports that foods have specific "energetic" properties.  Some food sources may have warming properties, while others may have cooling effects.  Once a proper TCVM pattern has been determined for your pet, various foods can be selected that help support the body in healing itself.  For example, if your pet has a condition leading to an excess heat in the body, then feeding proteins, vegetables, and fruit with cooling properties would be recommended.

The goal of food therapy is to maintain the balance of Yin and Yang, to cool heat patterns, to warm cold patterns, and supplement according to the Five Element Theory.  The results tend to be slower, and are not usually noted in the short term.  Food therapy is usually used as an adjunct to acupuncture and/or herbal therapy.

Testimonials

My senior horses and dogs with chronic health problems from lameness to breathing issues/ allergies have greatly benefited from Dr. Linnea's acupuncture and chiro treatments.  As a naturopathic therapist for animals, I am always looking for the most natural, least invasive, and most effective treatments for my animals. I am thrilled to have a DVM in our area offering these services full time. She is dedicated, compassionate, and effective and my animals are always happy to see her.
